The Shasta County DRC is celebrating its 12th year in operation. It serves up to 75 individuals on probation, both in-custody and in the community, to provide a structured combination of evidence-based programs, skill building, case management and community connections to help connect participants with resources and obtain essential needs. The program combines daily reporting with groups and treatment that focuses on sobriety and employment or full-time school enrollment when participants exit the program.
Center participants attend several groups, including substance abuse treatment; life skills development; cognitive behavioral treatment; parenting and family resources; emotional regulation and coping skills; employment skills building and career development counseling; and aftercare. Individuals move through phases at the center based on behavioral milestones. The center opened in April 2013 and focuses on reducing the likelihood of reoffending, a long-term benefit to the community in reduced correctional costs and improving public safety. Since opening, the Shasta County DRC participants have recidivated at a lower rate compared to a much higher rate statewide.
