Recent job fairs promote opportunities for participants and community

GEO Reentry Services is proud to promote employment opportunities for participants and the greater community with free resource and job fairs which provide ex-offenders with access to local employers and community providers.

Several day reporting centers operated by GEO Reentry recently hosted or participated in job fairs in their community, including Tulare and Tuolumne County DRCs in California and the Chicago Heights Reentry Service Center in Illinois, which will host a resource and job fair on Oct. 20.

The Tulare County DRC hosted a job fair on Sept. 29 at their DRC, which featured representatives from Labor Max, Family Services, Lighthouse Family Center and Tulare County’s R.E.S.E.T program. The Tulare County public defender’s office was also present to discuss the “Clean Slate Project,” an initiative that helps expunge criminal records and offers legal advice.

Tuolumne County also participated in a job fair on Oct. 6 that was hosted by The Union Democrat, the area’s local paper. The event featured representatives from about 20 employers, including Avalon Care Center, Mother Lode Job Training, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Columbia College Apprenticeship Initiative and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.

The resource and job fair hosted by the Chicago Heights RSC will take place on Oct. 20 at their center at 1010 Dixie Highway in Chicago Heights and include representatives from Aunt Martha’s Community Health Center, Prairie State College, Respond Now and 1st Class Staffing. The fair will last from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Gaining employment and finding access to community resources is an invaluable step for individuals working to overcome criminal convictions and past jail or prison terms. GEO Reentry works hard to help participants gain the right foothold so that their reentry into their communities can be as successful as possible.
